Mahtab Sabetara (they/them) is a Berlin-based musician, composer, and sound designer. With a background in classical music, Mahtab works with sound as a way of exploring its different qualities and expressing emotions. Their practice moves between composition, experimentation, and sound design, with an interest in atmosphere, texture, and the relationship between sound and space.
Their work ranges from experimental and ambient music to more electronic and rhythm-based forms, with influences from genres such as darkwave, synthwave, and industrial music. They often bring together acoustic and electronic elements, using sound to create different moods, tensions, and emotional states.
Alongside their own music practice, Mahtab has worked as a composer and sound designer across different mediums, including theatre, lecture performance, dance, and research-based performance. These collaborations have allowed them to explore how sound can interact with movement, text, space, and live performance.
